How Readers Construct Meaning from Written Text: What U.S. Literacy Research Tells Us

Current evidence from neurology and technical eye-movement reading data support decades of studies of challenged and proficient readers. Examples from reading samples and interviews by school-aged readers show how this foundational knowledge applies to pedagogical strategies that are more effective than others for strengthening reading comprehension.
