Dozierende:
Arnez, Monika, Prof. Dr.
Veranstaltungstyp:
Hauptseminar
Beschreibung:
This interactive reading seminar is designed for Master students in Development Studies, International Cultural and Business Studies, Geography and related subjects. It involves a careful examination of the relationship between gender and development. Emphases are on (1) conceptualizing development and the obstacles to a feminist perspective and methodology, (2) engaging with the consequences of violence on changing gender relations, (3) discussing the relationship between gender and religious fundamentalisms and (4) unpacking agriculture and mining from a gendered perspective. Students gain a broad perspective of the variety of gender and development issues. They engage with the latest literature on development, gendered violence, religious extremism and the interplay between gender, agriculture, and mining. Students are expected to read and prepare provided literature, present a reading analysis together with a fellow student and engage in discussions in the classroom. Ideally, the topic of the final term paper is related to the text analyzed in the reading analysis.
