DESCRIPTION:This lecture examines the complex and often overlooked intersec
 tion of militarisation, environmental security, and development in the Ama
 zonian region. It addresses the deeply embedded nature of militarisation w
 ithin development processes in the region, and the persistent empirical bl
 ind spot regarding military presence and influence, in a contested interac
 tion with local population. As Brazil assumes a prominent role in global c
 limate diplomacy and environmental governance – underscored by its hosti
 ng of COP30 in 2025 in the Amazonian city of Belém – understanding thes
 e dynamics becomes increasingly urgent.
