Work and family are two important life domains that govern and influence an individual's life. We appear to be continually encouraged to pursue jobs that we are passionate about, owing to the generally held belief that people’s lives are most worthwhile when they are surrounded by passion. This stimulates the thought if passion is solely about the benefits and positive outcomes associated with it, or does it also have a downside? Recent research suggest that while some forms of work passion appear to be clearly desirable and generate positive emotions, enhanced job performance, work-flow experiences, not all forms are adaptive. Some forms of work passion can be downright detrimental and can elicit negative emotions, lead to inflexible persistence, and obstruct the pursuit of a balanced and fruitful life.
In the workplace, passion is a highly sought-after, yet poorly understood, attribute. Hence, we, a team of researchers from the University of Passau and Indian Institute of Technology- Madras (IIT-M) are conducting a study to gain insights on the impact of work passion on the work-family interface among the entrepreneurs in Germany and India. Through our research, we hope to learn more about the intricate pathways connected with the various forms of work passion, as well as their differing effects on one’s enrichment and conflict mechanisms in life. Given the cross-cultural nature of the study, it also considers cultural influences on these interactions. The study among the Indian and German entrepreneurs will help us in understanding the individual cultural distinctions as well as societal cultural values that are associated with the cultural connotation and portrayal of work and family in the given culture.
The research is a two-phase study separated by a time interval of two weeks, each of which will take no more than 10 minutes of your valuable time. Your willingness to participate in the study will enable us to acquire a wealth of knowledge that will not only help us draw meaningful conclusions, but will also contribute to the body of entrepreneurial literature. You can choose whether to take the survey in German or English, depending on your preference. The following is the link to the study survey:
We would be extremely grateful if you could kindly participate in the study and help us in successfully completing it. Your responses will not only help us understand various dimensions of the work passion-work family interface relationship but also serve as invaluable inputs for suggesting new policy initiatives for organizations. Kindly note that 10 minutes of your valuable time can make a significant difference in our research and will benefit the entire entrepreneurial community.
