Colonial Objects: The Materiality of Britain's Empire Mentality (1776-1914)

This cultural historiography of colonial materiality identifies discursive constructions of colonial objects and thereby lays bare the development of Britain's imperial mentality during the 'Long' Nineteenth Century within three larger fields of interest: (i) colonial trade and the marketplace, (ii) visual culture and the exhibitionary complex, (iii) literary representations of colonial objects.
