Orchestra
Members and Rehearsals
The Passau University Orchestra consists of about 80 university students from all faculties and interested students and adults from the region. During the semester, we rehearse on Tuesdays from 6:45 to 10:00 p.m. in room 008 in the Innsteg-Aula (ISA) in preparation for our two semester concerts, which take place at the end of January/beginning of February and in July, respectively. After rehearsals you can often find us in the Gmoa in the Nikolakloster courtyard, where we spend the evening getting to know new members.
To put the finishing touches on our programme, we have an additional rehearsal weekend in the middle of the semester and an out-of-town rehearsal weekend at the beginning of the semester where we all go away together. In the last semesters we have been to various training camps in Upper Austria or in the Bavarian Forest. During these weekends, a lot of rehearsal is naturally going on, but there are also opportunities for chamber music and plenty of celebrations to strengthen the orchestra community.
Organisation and Association
We are a dynamic and self-managed orchestra: everything is organised independently and exclusively by the musicians - from press releases and the organisation of rehearsal weekends to the design of the programme booklets and ticket sales ... Even the choice of our conductor is entirely in the hands of the members - just like world-famous orchestras, we elect them and help shape our future in this way.
Since 2008, the Passau University Orchestra has been a non-profit association in addition to its activities as a student group. The association Passauer Universitätsorchester e.V. aims to support the work of the Passau University Orchestra.
The Passau University Orchestra is also a member of the Federal Association of German Amateur Orchestras (BDLO).
