SUMMARY:Teaching in Multicultural Learning Environments 
DESCRIPTION:The number of international students at German universities is 
 growing every year, enhancing cultural diversity, enriching the intercultu
 ral interactions among students and staff and enabling ‘Internationalisa
 tion at Home’. On the other hand, it also highlights the need for cultur
 al literacy and intercultural competence, in order to prevent misunderstan
 dings and promote development of positive relationships and dialogue. This
  seminar therefore focuses on culture and communication, first creating aw
 areness of the participants’ own cultural imprints and resulting communi
 cation patterns and then using this as the foundation to reflect on other 
 cultural backgrounds and communication. We will then use the insights to f
 urther develop their sensitivity for possible hurdles in order to work on 
 strategies to counteract these. The aim is for the participants to acquire
  a greater ability and range of approaches to foster appropriate communica
 tion in intercultural interaction situations that they regularly encounter
 , such as the classroom, tutorials, consultation hours etc.\n\n
