City Cycling: Uni Passau Team hits 8,000 km mark
52 active city cyclists from the Uni Passau team have collectively cycled over 8,000 km in the last 3 weeks. In doing so, they have saved almost 1.5 tonnes of CO2 (compared to a combustion engine car).
Our team managed to come in 10th place out of 65 – behind the hospital (14,000 km), the Adalbert Stifter Gymnasium (10,800 km), ZF (10,400 km), Caritas/Bistum (8,500 km) and several clubs.
Incidentally, the 65 teams that took part in Passau City Cycling clocked up a total of 200,003 km! That's an enormous amount and corresponds to a saving of 33 tonnes of CO2. Together we can do it! We would like to thank all participants and hope that they will continue to cycle diligently. Next Tuesday, the award ceremony will take place at the Radhaus.
Perhaps you will join us next year?

Looking back at the Sustainable Weeks
Almost two weeks filled with a wide variety of activities related to sustainability: We would like to express our special thanks to the university sustainability group, which played a key role in organising the Sustainability Weeks, and to Kulturtransport for providing the premises with various facilities for cinema, workshops, presentations and many other activities.
Special highlights included the Kibera Fashion Week event with Kenyan designer David Avido and Sustainability Day with a visit from Bavarian Environment Minister Thomas Glauber.
We look back on the series of events with satisfaction and are optimistic that we will be able to offer another exciting programme next year. Please feel free to contact us with any suggestions!

Parking lots for bicycles
Student groups and the climate protection concept are calling for it: an increase in the number of covered bicycle parking spaces. Rather than sealing off new outdoor areas with bicycle sheds, we are focusing on existing spaces: in July, the Climate Protection Unit, together with students from the student councils, examined the campus, particularly the parking garages, to identify areas where covered bicycle parking could be installed without reducing car parking capacity. Some areas in the garages where bicycle racks could be installed without restricting car parking capacity were identified. The next step is to discuss the options for expanding the provision with the Facility Management department, as well as communicating and informing people about the available spaces.
Do you know where the most beautiful bicycle cellar in Passau is, by the way? It's located at the lower archway in the NK and features lockers where you can charge your battery and secure your bicycle helmet.

Tante Emmer Shop turns into a cooperative
After eight years, Tante Emmer's ‘Unverpackt & Bio’ shop in Grabengasse is changing its business model and becoming a cooperative.
Organic food, much of it unpackaged and/or regional, is the hallmark of this charming little shop, which also serves an important social function in the pedestrian zone as a place to drink coffee and chat.
The shop is still looking for people to buy shares in the cooperative – one share (an interest-free loan to the cooperative) is available for £100. Of course, you can still shop there even if you're not a member. They're also looking for volunteers in lots of areas. It's a great community initiative for healthy, organic food without packaging waste. Further information.
