English Studies at the University of Passau
English Studies at the University of Passau – represented by the Chair of English Literature and Culture (Prof. Dr. Jürgen Kamm), the Professorship of English Cultural and Media Studies (Prof. Dr. Lucia Krämer), and the Chair of English Language and Culture (Prof. Dr. Daniela Wawra) – complements the university’s curriculum each semester with a broad spectrum of lectures, seminars and courses focussing on the central aspects of English linguistics, literary, cultural, and media studies. Reoccurring lectures such as the introductions to linguistics, cultural studies, and literary studies as well as seminars based on current research are a firm component in a variety of study programmes: Teacher education programmes with English as a teaching subject, the interdisciplinary bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes European Studies, International Cultural and Business Studies, Language and Text Sciences, Semiotics of Text and Culture, Media and Communication, Historical Sciences, and Geography: Culture, Environment and Tourism – all include courses provided by the chairs of English Studies.
Besides the broad and diversified range of courses, the social exchange between students and lecturers is ensured through extracurricular activities. Most recently, the team of the chairs of English/American Studies, with the help of the student body of the philosophical faculty, have organised the open-air Midsummer Night’s Readings in July 2021.
