University President's Easter Message

Dear members and friends of the University,

In stark contrast to the glorious sunshine outside, we are experiencing a crisis that affects all of us deeply. For many of us, the threat has a sense of unreality about it. Others are torn between hope and fear in hospital as they experience the devastation wrought by this insidious virus; more and more people are losing loved ones.
We are being told that this is a matter of life and death – this, we have understood.

The University of Passau has sprung into action and assumes its role with a strong determination in these days. Everyone is doing the utmost within their area to make sure that the semester can start on 20 April. For a president who is starting out as the University is scrambling to deal with this crisis, it is heartening to experience the team spirit and sheer dedication of the people in this institution.
I wish to take this opportunity to thank all those who are doing such a wonderful job for the University. I also wish to express my gratitude, personally and on behalf of the University, to all those who are doing their part elsewhere to help get us through this difficult time unscathed. THANK YOU!

This Easter will be different: Churches without an Easter service will remain empty and we won't be embracing dear relatives and friends; but we will muddle through and then look forward to better times that will follow this crisis.

While we may be celebrating a muted and cautious Easter this year, I would, nevertheless, like to wish you all that it be a happy one. In its original meaning, this holiday is particularly apt, as it inspires us to take heart and overcome sorrow.
I wish you and your loved ones good health, and may the future bring many good days for us all.
