Paris Agreement: An overview
Professor Dr. Christina Voigt, University of Oslo, will be giving a lecture addressing the legal nature and the main building blocks of the Paris Agreement. She will, in particular, address the accountability of parties under the agreement, both under the transparency framework and the compliance mechanism. She will analyse the relevance of the Agreement 5 years after its entry into force (in 2016) and also give examples of its importance beyond the treaty text itself, such as, for example, in current climate litigation as well as in the development of Free Trade Agreements.
About the speaker:
Professor Voigt is en expert in international environmental law, especially on climate change. She is the co-chair of the Paris Agreement Implementation and Compliance Committee and has for over 10 years worked as principal legal advisor and negotiator for the Government of Norway in the UN climate negotiations. She is also the Chair of the IUCN WorldCommission on Environmental Law, Climate Change Specialist Group.
She has a law degree from the University of Passau, an LL.M from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and a doctorate degree from the University of Oslo, Norway.
