Detail
Regulating Immersive Journalism in the Metaverse
‘Sagen, was ist’ (‘Telling what is') is a famous quote by Rudolf Augstein (1923–2002), the founder of the German magazine Der Spiegel. With these words, Augstein wanted to put the core characteristic of journalism into a nutshell. "This journalistic core value is under threat to fall apart in the Metaverse (such as the one currently being established by US-company Meta), because it is hard to determine and hard to say ‘what is’ in a virtual world.
After a brief introduction to and definition of what journalism is — which is crucial to define the ‘telling’ part of Augstein’s quotation — and what the Metaverse might become — which is quite crucial for the ‘what is’ — the lecture will discuss the non-existing regulation of a media phenomenon that almost does not yet exist.
The event will be available via Zoom (registration needed) and in person at HS 14 (JUR) at the university of Passau.
Additionally, with the American Thanksgiving festivities coming up in the same week as this event, the DAJV Student Division Passau is happy to invite any interested individuals to a Thanksgiving dinner afterwards. Meals will be paid for by us, but we kindly ask for a registration via email to Sophia Klingler (sophia-marie.klingler@gmx.de) beforehand for planning purposes. There is a limited number of seats available.
