Working Towards ‘Counter-topographies’: Housing Commodification and Everyday Life in Two Cities (Ottawa, Canada and New York City, USA)
This lecture examines the slow and sudden commodification of public housing infrastructure
in Ottawa and New York City. The research methodology centers tenants’ everyday lives as a
jumping-off point to examine the broader political-economic restructurings that exacerbate
racialized dispossession, insecure tenureship, and struggles for social reproduction.
