Methodikum — Methodological Research in the Humanities

Methodikum@Uni Passau
The Methodikum serves as a central hub for foundational methodological research in the humanities at the University of Passau. It aims to foster interdisciplinary exchange and to consolidate and make visible synergies in the field of computational and digital methods in both research and teaching.
Researchers who are just beginning to explore digital methods in their specific disciplines will find in the Methodikum a low-threshold platform for consultation and exchange. In addition, the Methodikum regularly hosts workshops, lectures, and discussion formats to engage with current developments in digital methods in the humanities and to reflect on them collaboratively.
Methodikum Consultation Hour
Every Thursday at 2:00 PM in HK16, Room 311, we offer an open Methodikum Consultation Hour. This is a space where you can bring your questions about research data management, method selection, tools, or project planning – whether you're just getting started or already in the midst of a research project.
Structure and Leadership
The Methodikum is currently supported by the following chairs:
– Computational Humanities (Prof. Dr. Malte Rehbein)
– Multilingual Computational Linguistics (Prof. Dr. Johann-Mattis List)
– German Linguistics (Prof. Dr. Alexander Werth)
The main contact is Dr. Thomas Haider. You can reach the Methodikum at:

Events and Exchange
The Methodikum regularly invites scholars and students to engage with topics related to digital methods in the humanities. Activities range from hands-on workshops in text analysis to project-focused colloquia and guest lectures by international speakers. Collaborations with external research institutions and digitization initiatives are also part of our profile.
A calendar of events featuring upcoming and past events as well as further information on our activities can be found below or under the Events and News tabs.
Join Us!
All students and researchers interested in questions of digitality and methodology in the humanities are warmly invited to get involved – whether by participating in events, proposing workshop ideas, or simply joining the conversation.
