The first phase of quantitative fieldwork in the Philippines, led by Daphne
Santiago, was successfully completed on May 31, 2025.
In collaboration with the University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) and
Visayas State University (VSU), the fieldwork covered three components. Data
collection took place in Leyte and Biliran (Region VIII), Davao del Sur, Davao del
Norte, and Davao City (Region XI), and South Cotabato (Region XII) from January
to May 2025, gathering data from 963 farmers/participants.
The three research components cover the following topics:
- Farmers’ trust in institutions
- The role of non-cognitive skills in technology adoption
- Views on transparency among cooperative members (Monika Ranabhat’s MA thesis)
From January to early March, Daphne was in the Philippines to train enumerators
and lead the implementation of the trust game sessions and survey. From March
to May, local field teams from VSU and USEP, each composed of one local
research assistant and five enumerators, continued the extensive survey work.
