On Monday 9th June, Gremary Aza participated in the regular session of the Municipal Council of San Carlos, where she shared key information about the REVALUED project and the case study conducted in the Huetar Norte region of Costa Rica. The session was attended by municipal councilors and the mayor, Mr. Juan Diego Gonzáles.
Together with Mr. Israel Vallejos (Field Logistics Coordinator), they presented the progress of the project in the canton of San Carlos, as part of the ongoing research on the development of the bioeconomy in the agricultural sector of the Huetar Norte region. The presentation covered the actions carried out to date, the insights generated, the stakeholders who collaborated in the study, and the results obtained—particularly those related to understanding the dynamics of the local bioeconomy actor network and the challenges they face in the valorization of agricultural residues. The presentation also highlighted the importance of these efforts for the sustainability of the pineapple sector and its potential for new applications in livestock feed.
We sincerely thank the Municipal Council and the mayor for their openness, for providing this space for dialogue, and for their interest in the research processes being carried out in the canton. As local authorities and representatives of local government, their knowledge and active participation are essential for amplifying the impact of research where our results can serve as tools to deepen analysis and strengthen collaboration with local actors. This, in turn, supports informed decision-making in their role as local government—crucial for generating public policies that positively impact the territories.
The research group on Bioeconomy Economics remains committed to conduct applied research processes that foster sustainability and territorial development.
