Family Day
The University of Passau is organising its twelfth Family Day on 20 November 2024, on the school-free Day of Repentance and Prayer.
Under the coordination of the The Executive Support Unit for Diversity and Gender Equality, the University of Passau organises its Family Day every year on the school-free Day of Prayer and Repentance in November. The aim is to facilitate the reconciliation of work and study with family life: Employees and student parents of the University of Passau and the Studentenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz are cordially invited to bring their school-age children and grandchildren to the University on this day.
This year's Family Day will take place on 20 November 2024.
Thanks to the commitment of various institutions, chairs and professorships, a diverse workshop programme will be offered for school-age children and young people.
All workshops take place in presence.
- from 7:45 a.m: Registration in the cafeteria foyer
- 8:30 a.m.: Welcome of the children in the canteen
- 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.: Workshops
approx. 13:00 p.m.:
A) Children not participating in the afternoon programme: Pick-up by their parents in room ITZ 017.
B) Children participating in the afternoon programme: Pick-up by the Family Day Team from the workshop room and lunch break in ITZ 017 (without parents).
- 1:30 p.m. - 4 p.m.: Afternoon programme in the sports centre
- 4 p.m.: Pick-up of the children by their parents in the foyer of the sports centre
Children taking part in the afternoon programme "Sport is Fun!" must be picked up at the sports centre at 4 p.m.; earlier pick-up is not possible. The children who do not participate in the afternoon programme must be picked up by their parents or grandparents in room ITZ 017.
Students will accompany the children to the workshops, lunch and the sports centre. There will be packed lunches for the lunch break, to which the University of Passau cordially invites the children and workshop organisers!
Registration
The number of participants is limited. Places in the individual workshops will always be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis within the registration period. Registration starts on 30 September at 9pm and is only possible via this website up to and including 20 October 2024.
The University of Passau organised its eleventh Family Day on the 22 November 2023 (school-free Day of Prayer and Repentance). A total of 84 children of students and employees of the University of Passau and the Studentenwerk participated in 13 interesting workshops. Workshop Offers 2024
(1) The Enchanted Library
max. 12 participants from class 1 to class 2
Duration: 11:00 to 12:30 p.m.
Content: Come into the world of the "book eaters"! In our picture book cinema in the Library Lounge we show the films "Pippilothek" and "The Book Eater". Afterwards, you can meet the little "book eaters" in a joint game as well as on our handicraft street!

(2) In search of the founding charter - a scavenger hunt across the campus
max. 10 participants from class 1 to class 2 (workshop 1)

Duration: Workshop 1: 9:00 am to 10:30 am / Workshop 2: 11:00 am to 12:30 pm
Content: What a shock - the university's founding charter has disappeared! Has it been cunningly stolen? Without its founding charter, the university is at a loss! I wonder what the president has to say? Join us on an exciting search for clues across the university campus. The thieves must have left a few clues... will we be able to find them again?
Note: Please wear weatherproof clothing.

(3) Musical journey “Under water”
max. 15 participants from class 1 to class 4
Duration: 9:00 am to 10:30 am
Content: This workshop offers primary school children different listening experiences with music on the theme of “Under Water”, music to join in with and playing Orff instruments.

(4) Scavenger hunt in the media center
max. 9 participants from class 1 to class 4
Duration: 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.
Content: Go on a treasure hunt in the media center of the University of Passau. Many tricky puzzles and tasks await you.

(5) Homemade Sweet and Healthy Treats
max. 15 participants from class 1
Duration: 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.
Content: Together we prepare healthy snacks and sweet energy balls. Afterwards we create beautiful bags to pack the treats.

(6) Yoga for Children
max. 8 participants from class 1
Duration: Workshop 1: 9:00 am to 10:30 am / Workshop 2: 11:00 am to 12:30 pm
Content: Children's yoga requires imagination: in a playful and creative way, we go on an exciting adventure, climb mountains, build a boat and meet lots of different animals - be curious and come on a discovery tour!
Note: Please bring your own light blanket and exercise mat. If none is available, mats will be provided at the sports center!

(7) Ceramics Workshop: Sculpting with the Material Clay
max. 12 participants from class 1 to class 6
Duration: Workshop 1: 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. / Workshop 2: 11:00 to 12:30 p.m.
Content: You work with the material clay and can freely model figures or learn a building technique.
Note: Please bring a work shirt or a painting smock and tie up long hair!

(8) Off to the Top! - Climbing for Children
max. 14 participants from class 3
Duration: Workshop 1: 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. / Workshop 2: 11:00 to 12:30 p.m.
Content: Bouldering is a fun way to get into climbing. You will learn the necessary belaying techniques with the rope. While climbing, you become aware of your abilities. You will learn to trust your climbing partner.
Note: Please bring sports clothes and indoor shoes with sturdy soles!

(9) A Journey through Space
max. 16 participants from class 3 to class 6
Duration: Workshop 1: 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. / Workshop 2: 11:00 to 12:30 p.m.
Content: The children travel to planets in the ZLF's Didactic Innovation Labs. They discover these through active media work in different areas, such as music, animated film, animated drawings and artificial intelligence.

(10) Fairy tale workshop: Of dragons, trolls and enchanted forests
max. 10 participants from class 3
Duration: 9:00 to 12:30 p.m.
Content: Once upon a time... a workshop in which we want to take you into the fascinating world of fairy tales. Together we will explore the magical world of fantasy, ideas and creativity. You will learn what makes a good fairy tale and how you can write one yourself!
Note: We want to inspire the participants to write creatively so that at the end everyone has written their own fairy tale to take home with them.

(11) Programming Robots
max. 10 participants from class 4 to class 8
Duration: 11:00 to 12:30 a.m.
Content: You will first get to know the components (sensors and actuators) of the robots. Then you will use the programming environment on the computer to send simple commands to the robot step by step. Through simple tasks, you will learn to read the sensors of the robots (e.g. distance meter or brightness meter) and to send commands (motor on, move forward, turn, etc.). With this knowledge, simple programmes are then created with which the robots are programmed to move collision-free through an obstacle course.

(12) What does the Eiffel Tower have to do with frogs?
max. 20 participants from class 4
Duration: 11:00 to 12:30 a.m.
Content: In this workshop, children learn more about our neighboring country France in a playful way and learn important words and phrases in French to introduce themselves and approach others. The aim is to promote the open use of a foreign language and to sensitize the children to the problems of national stereotypes. At the end of the course, they receive a certificate for their initial knowledge as intercultural mediators.

(13) Discovery Expedition in the Archive
max. 6 participants from class 5 to class 8 (Workshop 1)
max. 6 participants from class 2 to class 4 (Workshop 2)
Duration: Workshop 1: 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. / Workshop 2: 11:00 to 12:30 p.m.
Content: Every era has its writing and its books. With university archivist Mario Puhane, we go on a journey back in time. Unravelling old writings means experiencing history. Other gems from the University Archives can also be admired and touched.
Note: Reading and basic writing skills are required.

Afternoon programme:
(14) Sport is Fun!
max. 15 participants from class 1
Duration: approx. 1:30 to 4:00 p.m.
Content: In the afternoon, a varied sports and games programme awaits you in the sports centre. An alternation of movement and relaxation in the gym and, weather permitting, also outside, makes for a nice end to the family day.
Note: Please bring gym shoes for the hall (and outside) and sportswear (also long-sleeved training jacket for outside)!

A total of 78 children of students and employees of the University of Passau and the Studentenwerk participated in 15 interesting workshops. For the anniversary, all children also received a gingerbread heart as a surprise. Special thanks to the Alumni Club Passau for this donation!
