PYREC is not a structured PhD programme. Rather, the two-year fellowship complements your PhD or postdoctoral research through cross-disciplinary training, interdisciplinary exchange and the opportunity to play an active role in shaping the programme.
The focus is on personal responsibility, academic dialogue and the joint development of new ideas – within an interdisciplinary community of outstanding early-career researchers.
The Fellows complete the programme over two consecutive years. Whilst the first year focuses on personal skills development and familiarising themselves with the programme, in the second year the Fellows take on increasing responsibility for shaping individual programme components and support the next cohort as Advanced Fellows.
Four practice-oriented training courses provide cross-disciplinary skills in areas such as:
- leadership
- teamwork
- science communication
- research management
- self-management and
- personal development.
In moderated Fellow Sessions, the Fellows present their research, discuss methodological issues and receive feedback from a range of disciplines. This exchange is complemented by workshops and other academic formats.
Fireside chats, PYREC/PICAIS Talks and other event formats provide an opportunity for direct dialogue with leading figures from the worlds of science, business and society.
Joint excursions provide insights into research facilities, companies and institutions, and enhance the team spirit amongst the fellows.
The programme year concludes with the joint annual conference. It provides an opportunity to present findings, share experiences and get to know new fellows.
