Mobility

Bicycle Storage Facilities

Various bicycle storage facilities on campus play a crucial role in promoting bicycle use. This not only contributes to reducing car traffic on campus and the associated emissions of greenhouse gases and particulate matter but also encourages the health-promoting practice of cycling.

With a total of over 850 bike racks, the campus provides ample parking space for students and staff. Additionally, new covered storage facilities with lockable boxes, specifically designed for e-bikes, are currently being built in the NK area and are set to open in spring. Furthermore, bicycle storage facilities are available in the university's underground parking garages, with their locations visible on this map.

Bicycle Repair Station

Since spring 2023, a bicycle repair station has been enhancing campus life. The station provides the necessary tools to confidently address unexpected bicycle breakdowns. This innovation is the result of the ongoing commitment of the Green University Group, which, in a collaborative partnership with the Facility Management Department, identified a suitable location. The installation of the station was expertly carried out by the in-house workshop.

The station is located behind the IM heading towards the ITZ.

JobBike for employees

JobBike is a model of corporate bicycle promotion that allows employees of the University of Passau to lease bicycles and e-bikes through their employer. This enhances the possibilities of sustainable mobility and the health of the employees. More information can be found on the website of the HR department.

E-Mobility

E-charging stations

The introduction of currently around 30 electric charging stations on campus is a significant step in promoting sustainable mobility. These stations not only provide students and staff with the convenience of charging their electric vehicles but also actively contribute to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and supporting environmentally friendly transportation.

University fleet

The ten cars in the university's fleet will be completely transitioned to electric vehicles in the medium term. The university leadership is already using an electric vehicle, as is the maintenance team with an electric van. With these acquisitions, the university is making a statement for sustainability and environmental awareness. The Facilities Management team also has bicycles and e-bikes at their disposal to travel environmentally friendly on campus.

Business travels

Bavarian Travel Directive

The Bavarian Travel Directive establishes the principles and regulations for official trips by employees of the Free State of Bavaria. It includes guidelines regarding travel expense settlements, accommodation costs, travel expenses, and per diem allowances. The directive promotes environmentally friendly means of transportation during official trips. This means that the use of public transportation as an official means of travel is encouraged, i.e., higher travel costs are covered, and additional overnight stays are granted. Air travel should be avoided and used only for indispensable trips as a means of transportation.

Compensation of flight emissions

According to the Bavarian Climate Protection Act (Article 4), the unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions from air travel caused by authorities and institutions of state administration, including the university, are compensated. Since 2020, this compensation is carried out centrally through the Bavarian State Agency for Energy and Climate Protection (LENK) by acquiring relevant certificates in the market. The resulting costs are forwarded annually to the university, which then allocates them to the chairs and institutions.

Student Outgoing

Green Erasmus+

For students on Erasmus abroad trips, there is additional funding for environmentally friendly mobility: Green-Erasmus+. To qualify for this support, low-emission modes of transportation such as bus, train, or carpooling must be used. In return, participants receive an additional lump sum of 50 euros and up to four extra travel days.
