Since 2014, graduates of the University of Passau have been taking part in the Bavarian Graduate Study (BAS), which is conducted annually by the Bavarian State Institute for Higher Education Research and Planning. Currently, a total of four universities and ten universities of applied sciences (UAS) in Bavaria participate in this survey.
This year, too, the graduates of the University of Passau have awarded very pleasing ratings to their degree programmes. Overall, 72 percent of graduates of the University of Passau look back on their studies satisfied or very satisfied. Moreover, over 70 percent would recommend the University to others. The current results also reflect the measures taken by the University of Passau to improve the international orientation of its degree programmes: alongside the various aspects of academic programmes surveyed, the international offerings of each institution are also assessed. Almost 64 percent of the Passau graduates surveyed rated these as "very good" or "good". The other Bavarian universities participating in the survey only achieve values of 50 to 54 percent in this category.
Many former students of the University of Passau also report being very satisfied or satisfied with their current professional activity after completing their studies. In the current survey, this figure stands at almost 82 percent, while other Bavarian universities achieve an average of only 77 percent.
As a campus university with short distances between buildings, opportunities for personal encounters and close contact between students and teaching staff, the University fosters an environment in which exchange and individual support are highly valued. At the same time, it combines academic education with intensive language training and with offerings that help students develop the skills needed for the future and the ability to help shape a changing world. In this way, the University not only prepares its students for their transition into professional life but also equips them with the ability to play an active part in social and professional developments. In addition to the positive feedback from its graduates, this orientation is also reflected in the consistently very good ratings that Passau's degree programmes have received in the CHE University Ranking.
"We are delighted with these positive ratings. They show that we prepare our students very well for their professional future. Such feedback from our graduates is also essential for the further development of our degree programmes. It helps us to take the expectations and needs of our students into account in a targeted way", commented Professor Bettina Noltenius, Vice President for Studies and Teaching at the University of Passau.
About the Bavarian Graduate Study (BAS)
The BAS provides higher education institutions with data for quality assurance and degree programme planning. The questions are determined by the Bavarian State Institute for Higher Education Research and Planning in cooperation with the higher education institutions in order to ensure comparability. For the current evaluation of the BAS, 8,233 former students who completed their degree at a Bavarian university or other higher education institution in 2023 or 2024 were surveyed. The University of Passau's response rate was 21 percent.
