The book reading is open to the general public and will feature original English passages, read by the author herself, as well as German translations. The discussions after the reading will be moderated by Birgit Neumann, Professor for English Studies/Cultural and Media Studies and Dr Joanna Rostek, Lecturer at the Chair of English Literature and Culture. After the event, there will be a chance for a chat with the author at an informal meeting over drinks. Admission is free, media representatives are highly welcome.

About the author
Bernardine Evaristo is one of the most prominent voices of contemporary English-language literature. Adopting a writing style that is at the same time experimental, bold and often anarchic, Evaristo uses her rich imagination and a great deal of humour to test the boundaries of the genre, playfully unmasking the absurdities of outdated stereotypes. For her oeuvre she has received the Orange Youth Panel Award, the EMMA Best Book Award, the NESTA Fellowship Award and the Arts Council Writers Award, among others. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and the Royal Society of Arts, and was awarded an MBE in 2009.

Mr Loverman tells the story of a 74-year old Antiguan-born Londoner, a husband, father and grandfather – who leads a secret double life as a homosexual. 'Mr Loverman' takes the reader on an exploration of the UK's Caribbean community and shows what can happen when people betray their dreams and desires for fear of the consequences.
