During the visit, Mr Maekawa met with University President Ulrich Bartosch and Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity Christina Hansen.
For many years the University has maintained close partnerships, which involve regular student exchanges among other things, with four Japanese universities, namely: Akita International University, which offers two 1-semester placements for students enrolled at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Information Systems and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities; Kyoto Sangyo University (one place for one to two semesters for students at any faculty); Meiji University in Tokyo (two 10-month or four 5-month placements for the faculties of Law or Business, Economics and Information Systems); and Musashi University in Tokyo (two five-month placements for the faculties of Business, Economics and Information Systems and Arts and Humanities). In the upcoming winter semester 2022-23, eight students from the University of Passau will be attending a Japanese host university.
The University of Passau and the consulate general have exchanged ideas for a joint event to be held next year. "We have agreed to plan an event jointly with German-Japanese Society in Passau", said President Ulrich Bartosch, and added that there is a keen interest on both sides to increase the number of student exchanges and intensify cooperation in research and development.
