"The University of Passau's recent excellent position in the GreenMetric Ranking underlines the sustainable course that the University has been pursuing since 2020 – with the goal that was also formulated in the recently adopted University-wide sustainability strategy: We want to lead the way as an institution and partner in terms of a comprehensive understanding of sustainability", emphasises Professor Werner Gamerith, Vice President for Sustainability and Knowledge Transfer at the University of Passau.
Set up as a non-profit initiative, the GreenMetric Ranking has been compiled annually by the University of Indonesia since 2010. It tracks a comprehensive range of sustainability activities and parameters of higher education institutions. Specifically, the following six categories are examined: Setting and Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation and Education.
