‘General study situation’, ‘Range of courses’, ‘IT infrastructure’ and ‘Support provided by tutors’ were just some of the categories in which it received top scores. And the category ‘University revision courses’ set a national benchmark of 1.3 (the average score achieved here was 2.0.). The University of Passau also achieved top rankings for information systems, in the categories ‘Support at the beginning of a course’, ‘Quality of facilities’, ‘Support for study abroad’ and ‘Provision for vocational orientation’ among others. Business administration at the university attained a score among Germany’s elite group in the category ‘Courses completed in a reasonable period of time’.

University President Ulrich Bartosch said: ‘The CHE ranking results confirm how good the conditions for study are in many ways at our faculty of law and faculty of business, economics and information systems. We are delighted about that, but at the same time will be using it as an incentive to continue making good progress. The current semester has presented us with unusual challenges, but is also offering us some extraordinary opportunities.’

The results of the CHE university rankings were published in the new 2020/21 ZEIT Study Guide. One third of the subjects are re-evaluated each year, and this year these were business administration, economics, business, information systems, industrial engineering, economic law, social work, law and, for the first time, occupational psychology. The University of Passau provides courses in business administration, information systems, law and economics. However, the university only offers master’s degrees for economics, so the results for this subject are only published at the end of the year in what are referred to as the CHE ‘master’s rankings’.

The CHE university rankings include facts and data on study, teaching and research at more than 300 universities and specialist higher education institutions, and are based on the opinions of approximately 120,000 students, who are asked to give their views on conditions at their higher education institution. They are the most comprehensive and detailed rankings in the German-speaking region.

The CHE university rankings can also be viewed in full on ZEIT CAMPUS ONLINE.
