President Carola Jungwirth congratulated the students for their accomplishments as the best of their cohort. About 200 applications of students were received from all four faculties; 87 made it to the second selection round. Students applying for the ‘Deutschlandstipendium’ scholarship are selected primarily based on their academic performance. Next to a student’s marks, criteria such as their aptitude, social commitment, internationality and financial situation are taken into consideration.

Law student Simone Schönmehl received a scholarship co-sponsored by Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. Ms Schönmehl has successfully applied for a Deutschlandstipendium scholarship before. ’Through the financial support of the scholarship, I have the chance to fully concentrate on my studies and afford the necessary materials without financial constraints. Also, getting to know other scholarship holders and the sponsors is a wonderful opportunity‘, she said.

Simon Winterstein studies for his M.A. Business Administration, and is currently in the third semester of the programme. He especially appreciates that the scholarship allows him to get in touch with regional companies. His scholarship is supported by 4process AG.

Another scholarship recipient, Yulia Radnaeva, said: ’To me, the scholarship is not only a recognition of my academic performance, but it also challenges my knowledge and potential’. She studies for an M.A. in Russian and East Central European Studies and is supported by Neuburger Gesprächskreis.

The scholarship programme at the University of Passau is made possible by its supporting companies, foundations, societies and private sponsors – 4process AG, Franz und Maria Stockbauer’sche Stiftung of the Löwenbrauerei Brewery in Passau, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, MICRO-EPSILON Messtechnik GmbH & Co.
