This forward-looking programme prepares students for a future shaped by artificial intelligence, equipping them with robust technical knowledge in areas such as machine learning, deep learning, neural networks and natural language processing. Delivered in a research-oriented, international environment with small class sizes, the programme also covers key mathematical foundations, as well as the legal and ethical dimensions of AI. Students may also take subject-specific language courses at no additional cost. The standard duration of the programme is six semesters.

Admission requirements include a general or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification and English language proficiency at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Applicants holding a school-leaving certificate from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) are required to complete a study aptitude test. Courses are taught in both German and English during the first four semesters, while the final two semesters are conducted exclusively in English.

“Our first English-taught bachelor’s degree in artificial intelligence marks an important milestone for the University. It addresses the crucial and rapidly evolving field of AI and, with its international orientation, specifically prepares students for a global job market where AI expertise is in high demand”, said Professor Gordon Fraser, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics.

Prospective students with a German Abitur or an equivalent European secondary-school qualification can apply directly from 15 June to 30 September 2025. Applicants with international university entrance qualifications may apply via uni-assist until 16 July.

Graduates of the B.Sc. Artificial Intelligence will also be eligible to continue their studies at the University of Passau in one of several Master of Science programmes: Artificial Intelligence Engineering, Computational Mathematics and Computer Science. These postgraduate degrees allow students to specialise further and build on the knowledge gained during their undergraduate studies.
