THE Impact Ranking: teaching quality at the University of Passau among the best 10 percent worldwide

The University of Passau has achieved this excellent global result both by offering outstanding learning offerings for its students and an exciting portfolio of services for the general population. These include public year-round facilities such as the library and courses taught online and face to face, offerings in the area of lifelong learning and a variety of events and cooperation projects with societal institutions.

The University of Passau also attained top scores (best 20 percent worldwide) in the areas 'Reduced Inequalities', 'Gender Equality' and 'Sustainable Cities and Communities'. Equality, family-friendliness and sustainability are strategically relevant for the University – and the appreciation and visibility gained are a validation of our efforts and commitment.

'The excellent result in the area of "Quality Education" as well as the good ratings in the three other categories deserve great respect', said a delighted Professor Werner Gamerith, the University Executive's Commissioner for Quality Assurance and System Accreditation. 'We are taking this repeated good ranking result as an incentive to strive for a deepening of further sustainability goals and to engrain sustainability as a cross-sectional task even more deeply in central areas of the University.'

The THE University Impact Rankings assess efforts with regard to the 17 UN goals for sustainable development. The indicators in this ranking focus on the 'third mission', i.e. the way in which universities contribute to society in addition to research and teaching, how they transfer knowledge and technology, and how they fulfil their role model function for good working conditions, compliance with equality and diversity standards and environmental action.

In the third year of the Impact Ranking survey, it is also clear that the 'third mission' is playing an increasingly important role. After a 50 percent increase in participation last year, the number of universities taking part in the ranking has now risen by another 50 percent. In the overall ranking of all criteria recorded, the University of Passau is among the 401–600 group of all participating universities.
