Empowering professionals for a complex world
Global Affairs and Intercultural Relations is a university-level certificate programme tailored for professionals in globally operating companies, consulting, NGOs, international organisations and public administration. The programme empowers participants to navigate complex global challenges with strategic, intercultural, and legal competence. In addition, it offers the opportunity to build or expand a career-relevant international network. In six interdisciplinary modules, participants explore global trade and governance, intercultural management and negotiation, international law, and geopolitical interdependencies – including a case-based focus on Brussels as a European hub. Historical and cultural perspectives provide essential context for understanding global affairs. Taught in English and, if desired, in German, the programme combines academic depth with practical relevance. Experienced experts from the relevant fields, involved as guest lecturers, ensure that theory and practice are closely interlinked.
After completing the certificate “Global Affairs and Intercultural Relations”, participants will be able to:
- Lead, negotiate and collaborate confidently in international and intercultural environments
- Recognise and respond to geopolitical risks and global economic shifts
- Navigate global trade, policy and Europe’s strategic role in world markets
- Apply key legal principles relevant to diplomacy, cooperation and international agreements
- Gain historical and cultural depth to better interpret international relations
- Think across disciplines and anticipate global challenges with a strategic mindset
- Strategic intercultural management and negotiation
- Geographical perspectives on global economic and political interdependencies: The case of Brussels (on-site)
- Legal principles of international relations, global trade and foreign investment
- Global trade, trade policy and Europe in the new world (trade) order
- Global governance and international relations
- Cultural and historical perspectives on global affairs
Each module concludes with an individual assessment.
This programme is particularly suitable for professionals in globally operating companies, at consultancies, NGOs, international organisations or in public administration.
Entry requirements:
- Higher education degree
- At least three years of relevant professional experience
- Good knowledge of English (B2/C1 CEFR)
- Five out of six modules, each with two-day on-campus courses (80 hours in total)
- Self-study for preparation and follow-up of the courses (220 hours in total)
- 10 ECTS credits are awarded for completing the programme
