University of Passau introduces three part-time master's programmes

As of winter semester 2025–26, the University will, for the first time, offer the opportunity to complete selected master's degree programmes on a part-time basis. With this step, the University is responding to the increasing demand for flexible study models that can are compatible alongside work, family or volunteering commitments.

The existing master's degree programmes in Legal Informatics and Charity Studies and Values-based Management will be available on a part-time basis. A new degree programme starting in the winter semester, the Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry, will also have a part-time option. All three degree programmes can also be studied on a full-time basis.

"By introducing part-time programmes, we are creating new access to academic education – especially for people who were previously unable to take up a master's degree programme due to time constraints", says University President Professor Ulrich Bartosch. "The University of Passau sees itself as an open higher education institution that responds to social developments and enables innovative educational pathways."

The LL.M. Legal Informatics provides law graduates with IT skills that prepare them for work at the intersection of law and digitalisation. In addition to the part-time option, the online study programme allows for a very flexible study structure: all courses of the degree programme can be viewed as live streams and some will also be recorded.

The M.A. Charity Studies and Values-based Management prepares students for management positions in the health and social services sector. The focus is on humanity, with the aim of managing people and organisations in a responsible, ethical, legally sound and at the same time economically competent manner. Courses are mainly held on Thursdays and Fridays as well as at weekends and are supplemented by digital formats.

The M.A. Pastoral Ministry offers a new path into pastoral care in the Church and related professional fields: It combines theological content with practice-orientated modules and is particularly suitable for career changers and people who have previously been involved in voluntary work in the parish. Courses are primarily held digitally, with the exception of one or two in-person weekends per semester.

It is currently still possible to apply to start in the winter semester for the Master of Laws in Legal Informatics (until 15 August) and for the M.A. Charity Studies and Values-based Management (until 30 September).
