What is it about?

Democracy Week

Democracy Week is a series of events in Passau where various organizations, initiatives, and institutions explore topics related to democracy, freedom, social responsibility, and social cohesion. During this period, numerous events take place throughout the city—such as discussions, workshops, exhibitions, and participatory activities. The goal is to encourage dialogue and make democracy a tangible part of everyday life.

The International Intergenerational Café

The International Intergenerational Café brings together international students and older residents of Passau. In a relaxed atmosphere, different generations and cultures meet, get to know one another, share experiences, and discuss topics from their daily lives and the world around them. This creates a space for intercultural dialogue, mutual learning, and social participation. It takes place once a month, on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. at the Haus der Generationen in Passau.

What do I need to do?

You must attend the project seminar “Interculturality and Practice” and, together with other students, design an interactive event in collaboration with participants from the Generation Café as part of Democracy Week.

You will develop a concept for this event and, if possible, implement it in the fall during Democracy Weeks (October 3–November 9, 2026).

The content will address questions such as:

  • How is democracy understood in different countries?
  • What does freedom mean to different generations?
  • How do people experience social participation?

The format of the event is intentionally open. Possible options include:

  • Storytelling formats
  • Small exhibitions
  • Interactive quiz formats
  • Discussion groups
  • Creative or playful formats
  • There are no limits to your creativity.
