The Lower-Bavarian Medical Campus aims to address the shortage of physicians in the region. To support this goal, the Lower Bavaria Medicine degree program was established at the University of Regensburg in the winter semester 2024/25, creating 110 new study places. For their clinical training, students will be assigned to one of four locations in Lower Bavaria: Deggendorf, Landshut, Passau, and Straubing. Applications for the program are submitted through the Foundation for University Admissions (Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung).
From the winter semester 2027/28 onwards, the University of Passau will be teaching in the following subject areas:
These subject areas complement medical training with perspectives that are highly relevant to society and prepare students for the challenges of a dynamic healthcare system. The courses are offered to all MCN students, regardless of the location at which they complete the clinical phase of their studies.
To fulfill these teaching responsibilities, a total of six new professorships will be established at the University of Passau, including:
Thanks to the research-oriented structure of the medical degree program at the MCN, students will benefit from a wide range of opportunities to participate in research projects, pursue a doctoral degree, and engage in academic work—particularly within the framework of the Project and Research Semester (PROWISS).
With a clear focus on digitalization, ethics, management and economics in healthcare, the University of Passau complements traditional medical education with key topics that will shape the future of healthcare. This enables students to engage at an early stage with questions that will influence healthcare of tomorrow:
Through this interdisciplinary approach, future physicians develop an understanding of complex interrelationships within the healthcare system and are equipped to actively and responsibly contribute to its continued development.
