The University has enjoyed close ties with Indian higher education institutions for many years, so much so that the country is one of its most important partners in Asia. The Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities maintain numerous close partnerships, as do the Faculty of Business, Economics and Information Systems with Manipal University and the T.A. Pai Management Institute, Manipal, and the Faculty of Law with the National Law University in Delhi within the scope of the undergraduate Law programme. Twenty exchange students and 136 degree-seeking students from India are currently going about their studies or research at our University, and we regularly welcome visiting scholars from India. There is a particularly close and long-standing partnership between the University of Passau and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) in Chennai that has led to the establishment of various double degree programmes at various levels.

During the consul general’s visit the talks centred on the expansion of relations and new opportunities for partnerships. Accompanying the Indian delegation on their Passau visit, Vice President Christina Hansen emphasised: "India is not only a key political partner for Europe but also plays a strategic role at our University, as many of our international students come from this country. The good bilateral relationship not only testifies to our fruitful ongoing cooperation but also strengthens Passau’s future as a place of research."

The deans and professors from the WIWI and FIM faculties and the Head of the International Support Services Section exchanged information with the consul general about current cooperation projects and project priorities. This was followed by a meeting with Indian students, who told of their experiences and study progress and accompanied the delegation on a tour of the campus.
