Top marks for Passau's Foreign Languages

The University of Passau's Romance and English Studies Chairs have received the highest ratings in the latest CHE ranking in the categories 'International orientation' and 'Completion within the standard period of study'.

| Reading time: 2 min.

The Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Professor Rüdiger Harnisch, said about the CHE rankings: "The results of the CHE rankings confirm the high level of attractiveness of our interdisciplinary study options such as European Studies, International Cultural and Business Studies and Language and Text Sciences, which have a strong focus on English and Romance Studies. Our Faculty has a strongly developed international profile and offers excellent conditions for study, resulting in students swiftly completing their courses of study. Moreover, the students enrolled in our interdisciplinary degree programmes are particularly mobile in the international arena, owing to our numerous double degree programmes and a comprehensive visiting scholars programme. We see these excellent results both as a sign that we are on the right track and an incentive to continue our efforts in this direction."

The CHE results were published in this year's ZEIT University Guide 2013/14, published on 7 May. One-third of all disciplines are re-evaluated each year – this year's evaluation covered engineering, linguistics, pedagogy and psychology. The University of Passau's pedagogy and psychology chairs did not participate in the rankings, as both are exclusively involved in the teaching degree courses. The University does not offer degree courses in engineering.

CHE evaluated more than 300 higher education institutions in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands. The CHE ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed of its kind in the German-speaking world. Topics covered include the quality of the universities’ degree programmes, teaching standards, equipment and research, as well as the verdict of 250,000 students about the study conditions at their higher education institutions. The ranking is available online from ZEIT ONLINE:  www.zeit.de/hochschulranking.
