Trends in population health in Iran – The role of internal reforms and international sanctions

This presentation provides a review of major health policies and reforms in the healthcare system and trends in population health in Iran during the last decades. The presentation also provides some evidence of how intensified sanctions affected these efforts and modified the trends in population health mainly through deteriorated macroeconomic conditions, increased living costs, reduced public health funding and less access to quality care.

Professor Dr. Hoda Zobeiri is a Researcher-in-Residence Fellow at the PICAIS at the University of Passau hosted at the chair of Development Economics (Professor Dr. Michael Grimm). Her research interests include development economics, health economics, institutional economics, and the economy of Iran. One of her recent projects was about pension reforms and retirement health in Iran.

The lecture will be intervened in Professor Dr. Grimm’s master course “Growth, Inequality and Poverty”.

The lecture will be held in English. All members of the University of Passau and interested members of the public are cordially invited to the event.
