The University of Passau offers the opportunity to apply for the English-taught, German-Czech Joint Study Programme (Double Master) in cooperation with the Charles University in Prague as part of the Master's degree programme in Computer Science.
Computer Science – Software and Data Engineering is a two-year Master's joint programme with the common curriculum taught jointly at Charles University, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics by the members of its School of Computer Science and at the University of Passau, Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics.
Graduates of this programme have acquired knowledge of software engineering, software development, Web engineering, database systems and Big Data processing, allowing them to work in a wide variety of fields of computer science in an international environment. The study programme aims at expertise in the analysis, design and development of complex software solutions and systems focused on Big Data processing. The portfolio of courses provided covers several technological platforms, from classic, web-based to modern cloud and distributed solutions.
After successfully completing the Joint Study Programme, students receive two Master's degree certificates from both partner universities, which refer to each other. At the University of Passau, students graduate with an M.Sc. in Computer Science. At the Charles University in Prague, they graduate with the Magistr (Mgr.) Computer Science – Software and Data Engineering.

Continuous technological change and innovations create new exciting lines of work in trade and industry, the services, financial and consulting sectors, in public administration, and in the field of scientific research. With this Master's degree you are qualified to take up IT-related executive positions or undertake independent research, e.g. as part of your doctoral study, laying the foundation for a career in academia.
The Joint Study Programme usually begins in the winter semester. Students spend the first and second semesters at their home university. They complete the third and fourth semesters at the partner university.
The programme consists of 120 ECTS credits. These are divided into compulsory modules and compulsory elective modules as well as the Master's thesis. At least 30 ECTS credits must be earned at each university. The Joint Study Programme leading to the issuance of a double degree is successfully completed by passing a final oral examination.

You can write your Master's thesis either at the University of Passau or at Charles University, Prague. The thesis is written in English under the joint supervision of both partners.

As the selection process for the Joint Study Programme takes into account the results you achieve in your first semester, the deadline for applications is in spring.

Applicants may be invited for interviews as part of the selection process. Participants are selected based on their prior academic performance and their motivation to participate in the programme, taking into account special achievements arising from the candidate's curriculum vitae.
Five students can participate per year. Successful applicants are selected and informed by mid-May.
The University of Passau transmits the data of successful applicants to Charles University. The selected students must then also enrol at Charles University Prague.
