Federal Ministries

Federal funding programmes are characterised by:

  • Joint/cooperation projects involving several partners and so-called R&D projects (research and development projects) with a business focus
  • Applications accepted only through time-bound calls for proposals
  • Projects with a practical focus involving collaboration between small and medium-sized enterprises and/or university partners
  • Two-stage application process

The University of Passau's procedure for applying for and accepting funding: Applications within the framework of funding programmes in the field of research (research funding procedure) dated 8 January 2025, as amended on 23 July 2025, must be followed.

This procedure replaced the former R&D procedure for research and education projects from 2010, i.e. for funding from federal and state ministries, the German Research Foundation (DFG), the EU, foundations, etc.

For the area of economic activities/contract research, the second part of the R&D procedure continues to apply. This procedure is currently undergoing a fundamental revision.

Your first point of contact for inquiries is Dr. Kerstin Theis, Head of Division III – Research Services.
