Research and Transfer Pool – funding programme for initial, own-contribution and project funding
"Research and Transfer Pool" funding policy
On 20 December 2023, the University Executive adopted a new policy for the internal funding programme “Research and Transfer Pool” (RTP) for initial, own-contribution and project funding.
The information letter and the policy document are available for further information.
We ask for your understanding that we are working with an e-mail application process during a transitional phase.
The documents for the “Proposal Funding" funding line can be found on the subpage "Proposal Funding".
Please contact us at the Research Services Division if you wish to apply for “Own Contribution” funding.
The application web forms will be activated soon. In the meantime, we apologise for the inconvenience.
The submission deadline for the first call for applications under the new "Project Funding" funding line was 21 April 2024. For details visit our Project Funding page.
If you have any questions, please contact Dr Theis and the Research Services Division Team.
- As a first step, please notify the relevant section of Research Services (Division III) about your planned research proposal and the underlying project. We will be happy to review a draft of your Research and Transfer Pool application and, where necessary, pre-register it for a University Executive meeting. If you are submitting an application for funding of the University's own contribution to the project costs, please submit it in good time to ensure that a decision is made before you submit your external funding proposal.
- Applications under the “Proposal Funding" and "Own Contribution" funding lines can be submitted at any time.
For applications under the "Project Funding" funding line (Section 7 of the RTP policy document), deadlines are set by the Vice President for Research for each semester. There is a separate application and selection process for this funding line, which is described in the call for proposals.
- Applications under the funding lines “Proposal Funding" and "Own Contribution" should be made online using a web form that will soon become available on this web page. After you submit the web form, you will have to confirm using the automatically generated confirmation link generated by the system. We will not receive your application until you confirm it using this link. Once you have confirmed, the application process is officially initiated and you will receive an individual confirmation of receipt from the Research Services Division, which may contain further questions and information on the next steps.
- Research Services (Division III) then initiates the further procedural steps:
Human Resources (Division VIII) determines the personnel resources.
Finance (Division VII) checks for available funds and draws up a funding allocation proposal.
Research Services (Division III) will liaise with you to prepare the decision document for the University Executive meeting (if required) and submit it to the Governing Bodies Section.
A copy of your application will be forwarded to the Head of Administration for his information.
The review period after receipt of your full funding application (including supporting documents) is, at minimum, fifteen working days.
- The Vice President for Research decides directly on funding of up to EUR 25,000; for funding exceeding EUR 25,000 or if the application is made under the “Project Funding” funding line, the University Executive decides.
For funding applications where the decision rests with the University Executive, the reviewed Research and Transfer Pool application must be submitted to the University Executive no less than eight working days before the meeting at which it is to decide on the application. Please be aware that, as a rule, the University Executive does not hold meetings during the semester breaks. The scheduling of the various steps of the selection process is determined in consultations between the Research Services Division, the Governing Bodies Section and the University Executive.
- Research Services (Division III) will provide advance information on the decision to you by e-mail.
If your application is approved, the Finance Division will send you an official letter of approval, which includes details on the cost centre and proof of use of funds.
Please note that the approval letter for the "Own Contribution" funding line will only be drawn up after we are in receipt of the funding approval from the external funding body.
