Civil defence siren test on 12 September

A Bavaria-wide siren test will be held tomorrow, Thursday, 12 September 2024 at 11:00. The purpose of this siren test is to check that the civil defence siren system is working properly and to make the population aware of the meaning of the different siren signals.

The signal you will be hearing during this siren test is the one used to alert the general public to a public announcement. The rising and falling wail of the sirens will last one minute. Its purpose is to notify people of serious threats to public safety and get them to switch on their radio sets and listen out for announcements. You do not need to take any action when you hear the sirens tomorrow, as its purpose is only to test the public warning systems.

Please note: For some people (e.g. the elderly, refugees from war zones or children), loud warning signals can trigger fear or post-traumatic stress. If you know of anyone in your environment who may be affected in this way, we recommend that you prepare them for the situation and, if possible, that you do not leave them alone during the siren test.
