Solidarity with Ukraine: Statement from the University Executive

The University of Passau is dismayed by Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, which violates international law, and is following current developments with great concern. Russia's actions run counter to all the principles that we stand for as a university and member of the global scientific community – and which are the foundations of successful international science: freedom, international understanding, openness to the world and tolerance. Our special concern is for the students and academics at our four Ukrainian partner universities, and we feel for all members of our university community who are fearing for their families and friends in Ukraine during these days.

The University of Passau has long-standing partnerships with Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, Kyiv National Economic University, National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv and the Ukrainian Catholic University. We stand in great solidarity with our Ukrainian friends. And we will do everything we can to help them. We assure our students, researchers and staff from Ukraine of our special care.

The University of Passau has long-standing partnerships with seven Russian universities, which we do not wish to break off. Our hope is for a dialogue of scholars and students from all countries that will help keep doors open to end this terrible bloodshed. That is what we are committed to.
