Internal accreditation procedures follow the KSE process and comprise several quality assurance steps. They are governed by the Regulations for Quality Assurance in Teaching and Learning. Generally, the accreditation procedure for a degree programme or a cluster of degree programmes can be completed within one year.
The „Staatsvertrag über die Organisation eines gemeinsamen Akkreditierungssystems zur Qualitätssicherung in Studium und Lehre an deutschen Hochschulen (Studienakkreditierungsstaatsvertrag (StAkkrStV))“ (Interstate Treaty on the Organisation of a Joint Accreditation System for Quality Assurance in Teaching and Learning at German Higher Education Institutions (Interstate Treaty on Study Accreditation), which entered into force in 2018 and was ratified by all 16 German Länder, established a new legal framework for accreditation procedures. Based on the Musterrechtsverordnung (Model Ordinance), all Länder have adopted their own regulations governing the accreditation of degree programmes, which serve as the basis for internal accreditation procedures. In Bavaria, the applicable regulations are set out in the Bayerische Studienakkreditierungsverordnung (BayStudAkkV) (Bavarian Study Accreditation Ordinance).
