We are excited to announce the inaugural BioEcon Workshop, dedicated to exploring the economics and governance of the global bioeconomy. We invite you to contribute to this significant event by submitting your abstracts and joining the BioEcon network.
The circular bioeconomy transition, a transformative process encompassing technological, institutional, and social innovations, aims to (i) foster the replacement of non-renewable resources with renewable biological resources and (ii) support the development of entirely new bio-based products and processes. For the Global North, it represents a shift to resource efficiency. For the Global South, it represents a potential pathway to sustainable development and industrialization. However, the transition to a bioeconomy also raises concerns about unintended consequences, the distribution of benefits, and resource pressures. This workshop aims to create a network of researchers and lay the groundwork for future activities including annual workshops, shared research papers, thematic conference sessions, exchanges, and special issues in academic journals.
We invite contributions on a range of topics related to the bioeconomy, including but not limited to:
Definition, measurement, and narratives of the bioeconomy
Innovation systems and transition management
Regulatory, economic, and information policy instruments
Governance of global value chains
Modelling pathways, risks, and scenario analysis
Economic, social, and environmental impact assessments
Biodiversity, justice, and marginalized groups
This workshop will facilitate exchanges among potential network members, laying the groundwork for future activities such as the organization of annual workshops, shared research papers, special sessions at conferences, junior researcher exchanges, and special issues in academic journals.
