What is it about?

This event is organized by YoungCaritas as part of the nationwide Ehrentag 2026.
Ehrentag is a day of action marking the anniversary of the German Basic Law. On this day, the Federal President calls on everyone in Germany to get involved in society through their own initiative. More information is available here:
Ehrentag 2026

As part of this day, you can work as a team to help organize a simple and creative event in a public space. The event will take place in Passau’s pedestrian zone and will create an open space where people can stop for a moment, watch, and strike up conversations with one another.

There is no set program. You are invited to contribute your own ideas and help shape the event—both during the preparation phase and on the day of the event.

The goal of the “Sit-In for Engagement” event is to raise awareness among young people about social engagement and to show that engagement can take many forms—from small gestures in everyday life to regular volunteer work.

The event aims to encourage people to reflect—especially on the question:
What can I do myself?

What do I have to do?

Your tasks:

You don’t just help—you actively help shape the campaign.

1. Brainstorm ideas

You can work with other students to gather ideas for the campaign. Your ideas will be directly incorporated into the campaign.

2. Reflect on what engagement means to you

Ask yourself:

  • What does engagement mean to me?
  • This includes small things in everyday life, such as
  • These thoughts will be shared later.

3. Participating on the day of the event (May 23, 2026)
You’ll be part of the implementation in the pedestrian zone, for example:

  • Helping to design the gathering space (e.g., a sofa as a meeting point)
  • Making thoughts and messages visible
  • Assisting with small interactive activities
  • Important: People come voluntarily—everything happens in a relaxed atmosphere and on equal footing.
