Programme description

In the Erasmus+ Mobility with Partner Countries KA171 programme line (Key Action 1 – Mobility of Individuals with Partner Countries), the University of Passau was able to raise funds for collaboration with non-European universities. They include grants for student mobility (Incoming & Outgoing) as well as for personal mobility (Incoming & Outgoing).

The application and selection procedure is the same as for non-European universities, as is the crediting of academic achievements.

  • Outgoing students (regardless of destination country): EUR 700 / month (plus additional funding (if applicable) EUR 250 / month)

Staff Mobility

  • Incoming staff: EUR 190 / day (from the 15th funded day onward the rate is reduced to EUR 133 / day)
  • Outgoing staff: EUR 190 / day (from the 15th funded day onward the rate is reduced to EUR 133 / day)

Travel Allowance

Both students and staff (incoming and outgoing) receive a travel allowance based on the distance to the destination country.

Distance Amount Amount for Green Travel
10–99 km EUR 23
100–499 km EUR 180 EUR 210
500–1999 km EUR 275 EUR 320
2000–2999 km EUR 360 EUR 410
3000–3999 km EUR 530 EUR 610
4000–7999 km EUR 820
8000 km or more EUR 1500

Travel days

For travel using standard means of transport, up to two travel days (0–2) are eligible for funding, and for sustainable travel, up to six travel days (0–6 days) are eligible.

Real Cost Applications for Exceptional Costs

If studying abroad incurs exceptionally high additional costs due to a disability or chronic illness, or because a child is being taken along for the entire stay abroad, an individual application is also possible, in which case the actual costs will be taken into account.

Participants (students and university staff) with a disability (degree of disability of 20 or higher) or with a chronic illness may apply for a preparatory visit in order to explore the local conditions in advance as preparation for an already approved mobility.

The application must be justified by the applicant and submitted to the International Office at least three months before the start of the mobility period. Approval is granted by the National Agency (NA DAAD) subject to the availability of funding.

Additional Funding

To enable more students to participate, Erasmus+ offers additional top-ups for students with fewer opportunities. These include students with disabilities or chronic illnesses and students with children. Other groups may also receive a monthly top-up of EUR 250 under certain conditions: working students students from non-academic families and students facing economic barriers

Please note: If multiple criteria apply (e.g., chronic illness and being a first-generation university student), the additional funding can only be granted once. Further information on the supplementary funding can be found in the DAAD’s catalogue of criteria and at the International Office.
