Promotion of internationalisation
The Promotion of Internationalisation scholarship supports German and international degree-seeking students at the University of Passau who wish to complete part of their degree programme at a university abroad.
- by April 1 for your future stay abroad from July - December
- by October 1 for your future stay abroad from January - June
Important: The respective selection decisions take place after these deadlines.
Students of the University of Passau can be granted a travel allowance from the funds of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts for the promotion of internationalisation.
The following can apply:
- German and international students
Scope of funding:
- Only the actual travel costs incurred (return flight, transfer)
Funding amount:
- up to 500 euros within Europe
- up to 1,000 euros outside Europe
The financial circumstances of the applicant and the person(s) who are obligated to provide maintenance will be taken into account to an appropriate extent. Your gross annual income will not affect the stipend if it is below the following threshold amounts:
- for applicants 15,000 euros
- for each additional dependent child: 8,000 euros
Not eligible for funding:
- Doctoral candidates (national, international)
- Student interns (applications possible via Zukunft: Karriere und Kompetenzen) → please note the relevant application deadlines

- Chronological curriculum vitae
- Current certificate of enrolment
- Description of the content and timeline of the project with a cost breakdown: It is sufficient to submit a brief description, no longer than one A4 page; ideally with a flight invoice and, if applicable, e-tickets.
- Academic appraisal by a professor at the University of Passau: The professor should address the student’s project, level of performance and eligibility for funding. The appraisal must be uploaded directly by the student in the online application form. Alternatively, the appraisal can be sent directly to the International Office by the university professor (see contact).
- Current printout from the Campus Portal: Grade overview, intermediate examination certificate, bachelor’s degree certificate, foreign language certificate
- Invitation or confirmation from the foreign host organisation (letter, e-mail, or similar.)
- Proof of need (e.g. BAföG notice, etc.)
After the stay abroad, the following must be submitted:
- Flight invoice showing your travel dates, your name and the purchase amount
- Tickets (original copies or PDF files)
If these documents are no longer available, a declaration must be written by the student confirming that the tickets have not been submitted to another institution for funding of the project. This declaration must be signed by the student.
For semesters abroad, the certificate of enrolment from the foreign university must be submitted.
Grants may not be awarded for
- language courses abroad
- Tuition fees charged by universitiesabroad
Scholarship funds are primarily granted for
- advanced students (from the 3rd semester at the earliest upon presentation of appropriate proof of performance)
Prerequisite:
- An academic report from a professor at the University of Passau with:
- description of the project
- information on the level of performance and
- the student's eligibility for funding
