Change of degree programme or subject
If you would like to change your degree programme – or teaching or didactic subjects in the Teacher Education Programme – this is possible only for the upcoming semester; the timeframe starts when you re-register for semester and it ends when the semester begins (calendar). You can apply for a change of degree programme or subject at the Student Registration Office.
Changing to a degree programme with open admission
If you would like to change to a degree programme with open admission and you have the required qualifications, an application for a change of degree programme or subject is generally sufficient.
Teacher education programmes
If you want to change subjects in a Teacher Education Programme or change to another Teacher Education Programme, please enquire about the possible subject combinations beforehand.
In most cases, a placement by the Examinations Office (application foracceptance of credit) will be required.
The Teacher Education Centre (ZLF) offers organisation-related advice on degree programmes for students studying teacher training as well as video tutorials on changing subjects and degree programmes.
Master's programmes
The application for changing to a master's degree programme can generally only be made after successful application and admission. Please refer to the offer letter for the application deadline.
Non-EU international students
International students from outside of the EU need to be aware that changing degree programmes/degree subjects means a change in their official purpose of stay in Germany. As such, your residence permit will need to be updated to reflect your new purpose of stay. International students from outside of the EU will need to contact the Foreigners' Registration Office (Ausländeramt) before applying for this change. Please remember that you can also contact the University's iStudi Coach for advice in this matter.
Advice and guidance before changing
In order to explore possible alternatives and discuss possible consequences (e.g. transferring credit from previous courses and placement in a higher programme semester, continued support through BAföG or your residence permit in Germany), we strongly recommend that you seek advice from the Academic Advice Service before changing programmes.
