Sustainability

We see ourselves as having a responsibility to society as a whole to address the core issues of sustainability today in ecological, social and economic terms, as well as to reflect the resulting future challenges:
- appropriately in research,
- in teaching in a variety of ways and
- to give them their due consideration in the day-to-day operation of the University.
When it was founded in 1978, the University of Passau was already planned as a sustainable project using energy-efficient, resource-saving building technology and a special urban architectural approach. The result was a campus that has won multiple awards, situated close to the city centre but still quiet, directly on the left bank of the Inn River and with many green, tree and park areas. The preservation of this tradition, which now spans more than four decades, and the continuing careful structural development of the campus using sustainable approaches is, to us, both an obligation and a responsibility.
You can find out more about what role sustainability and energy efficiency were already playing during the planning stages of the University and which other sustainability concepts are applied at the University in the following video.
