How to start your studies successfully – the orientation weeks

Dear students,

welcome to the University of Passau! We are pleased to welcome you as new students in the summer semester 2022.

Due to the current developments, the start of your studies will be somewhat different than usual. However, it is important to us that you have a successful start. That’s why we put together all the important information for you on the Getting Started page. In addition, the faculties’ student committees have prepared a comprehensive orientation week programme for you. You can expect both some digital and predominantly face-to-face formats.

Please take advantage of this offering. In the orientation week, you will receive important information and inductions that will make your start in your studies easier.

Orientation weeks of the student committees
The faculties’ student committees will each offer you their own introductory programmes. Please note that you have to sign up for many of these events. Below you will find the dates of the orientation weeks and links to pages with more information:

19 to 22 April 2022:
orientation week for students of the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics (Students on teacher training programmes who specialise in the subjects mathematics or computer science should also take part in this orientation week)
orientation week for students of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities
orientation week for students of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics (Master´s students)
orientation week for students of the teacher education programmes (for all school types as well as Bachelor of Education additionally)

Orientation weeks for international students
The orientation weeks specifically for international students will start on 11 April, organized by the International Office and the iStudi Coach. They will last until 24 April and participation is mandatory for exchange students. Click here to register.

Information technology inductions
The Center for Information Technology and Media Services offers students numerous services that enable and shape everyday (digital) university life. Visit the Center for Information Technology and Media Service's virtual orientation days. Find out more.

Language placement tests
From 19 to 21 April, placement tests will be held at the Language Centre in German, English, French, Italian, and Spanish. If you have previously studied these languages and would like to continue your language education in Passau, you are required to take these tests. This will ensure that you can join the course at a suitable level. From Tuesday, 19 April, 10:00 a.m. you can register online for language courses without a placement test.
